Mega-churches and Senior pastors in the Philippines

The Philippines has been one of the world’s hot spots for church growth. Although in the first seventy years after Protestant Christianity reached these islands in 1898 only 5,000 churches were established, in the last twenty-five years a further 22,000 have begun. While the average size of a church in Manila is about 100, a number of mega-churches have sprung up with congregations numbering in the thousands.
The term megachurch is the name given to a cluster of very large, Protestant/Born-Again Christian congregations, that share several distinctive characteristics. Here are some mega-churches that also have its other congregation worldwide:

Jesus Is Lord Church (JIL) is a Pentecostal charismatic movement in the Philippines  headed by founder Bro. Eddie Villanueva. The Jesus Is Lord Church was called the Jesus is Lord Fellowship when Villanueva started it with 15 members in 1978. In 2008, it had 6 million members in 10,000 local congregations in 44 countries. In the Philippines, it reached 4000 barangays in 85 provinces and 1,000 cities.

Total members: 6,000,000

Greenhills Christian Fellowship (GCF) is a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, English-speaking megachurch whose main congregation is located at Ortigas. It was a Baptist megachurch founded by David and Patty Jo Yount of Conservative Baptist Association of America in 1978. Dr. Larry Pabiona is the current senior pastor of GCF when Dr. Luis Pantoja passed away in 2010 due to massive heart attack.
Founded: 1978
Total members: 7,000

Bread of Life Ministries International (BOL) was founded by Rev. Butch L. Conde. It was started in the early 1980's as a half-way house for prostitutes in Olongapo City, until they expanded together with 12 people, including Rev. Conde, to start a new church in Marynoll College (now Miriam College), offered its auditorium to launch the first service gatherings on November 1982, and its church rapidly growth from 120 to 30,000 members overall in the congregations in the Philippines and overseas congregations in Asia, North America, Middle East and Europe. BOL is slightly different from all Christian churches in the country, because the leaders of the church teaches not only on spiritual needs and Heaven's promise, but also they teach intelligence, moral, physical, excellence, nation building and love for country.
Founded: 1982
Total members: 30,000

Christ’s Commission Fellowship (CCF) is a thriving church of approximately 25,000 believers, with worship and bible study centers in major cities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, plus one in Singapore. The fellowship is composed of and led by lay men and women, actively involved in small groups, in homes, communities, and workplaces. It was started in 1984 by Rev. Peter Tan Chi, as they started as Bible studies in Cainta, Rizal, until they expanded by the businessmen attended the Bibly studies to gather at Asian Institute of Management to launch CCF's first service until they grow into thousands of believers.
Founded: 1984
Total members: 26,000

Victory Christian Fellowship (VCF or Victory)  has 51 churches  in the Philippines, with thirteen in Metro Manila and thirty-eight in various provinces around the country. Rev. Steve Murell is the senior pastor of Victory Christian Fellowship, as well as being overall president of the Every Nation group of ministries. As of 2008, more than 34,000 people attend the worship services in Victory in Metro Manila alone. Victory has local congregations in the Philippines. Also, attended by some TV personalities and political icons.

Total members: 34,500

Day by Day Christian Ministries (DBD) was founded on June 6, 1985 in RiyadhSaudi Arabia as a small fellowship of OFWs. But the start of the growth of the organization was in 1990s, when they had the organization set foot in the Philippines. Currently the organization is still doing missions within the Philippines and in Arab countries. The senior pastor is Ptr. Ed Lapiz.

  • Mega churches are mega churches because of who the leaders are, the vision they cast before their members and their ability to make spirituality real to their members.
  • but Mega-Church will never be much bigger unless Small Group is emphasized so that the fellowship of the Brethren will remain even though you are big enough.
  • Healthy churches grow its natural as they take care of their members for their spiritual growth.

is Jesus miracle crusade IS part of Philippine council of evangelical churches? one of the criteria to be part of the council is that the church must BE a bible believing CHRIST centered church. to clarify it clearly the church must believe that THEIR IS one GOD eternally existing in 3 person (faTHER,SON AND SPIRIT)

1 corinthians 1:12-13 "....One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas[a]”; still another, “I follow Christ.”Is Christ divided?...."- Paul. it seems like this describes modern churches today.it is far from the conviction of paul and 1st century church. as paul said in Eph. 4:4-6 "There is one body and one Spirit —just as you were called to one hope when you were called — one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." "...Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior."- Eph. 5:23

Bread of Life central church gathering in Crossroad77 building in Quezon City is now less than 5,000 because of the exodus of its key pastors and elders last year. FYI

are u from bob amigo's group so u hav to attack this church? FYI too, needed to clarify and so-called "exodus of its key pastors and elders" are false.. Pastor Butch Conde leaved his position as senior pastor and became pastor emeritus of bread and Pastor Noel Tan of BOL Makati took over the leadership, as well as the elders needed to retire but still they're belong to BOL. (pls read wikipedia) 5000? maybe thats in a recent years because most of the people are Pastor Bong Saquing's (now in CCF) follower so they transfer all to CCF Ortigas, but this time has maybe in 10k people (growing again). I think that's bob amigo's fault why BOL is now like this in a past year. I'm not a regular member of bread, still connected with Pastor Bong & CCF

Why are you so concerned with numbers? Jesus only chose 12 disciples close to Him,one of which wasn't even a true one.Padamihan ba ng bilang ng members Ito? Or we should be concerned about the quality of life we live and witness to the lost if truly we are ever Christians. The one who commented about BOL maybe was from BOL before,or have heard from someone else, but doesn't know the facts and is just bitter that's why he left.Or maybe ,he's not ever a true BOL member at all in the first place. If your heart is not for the church, then leave that church. They don't need you there.

Amen! In the first place bakit parang competition na ito ng bilang ng mga members sa megachurch? dapat nalang suportahan nalang at kung mayron na di magandang nangyayari sa isang megachurch ay wag nang ipagsigawan dito o saan mang christian fourms like bereans.net etc. We are all bros and sis in Christ kaya bakit ba natin kailangan mag-away away dito. and by the way, my friend told me some former CCF members exposed their tirades against that church. It is kind of devil's action para yung mga unbelievers ay hindi na maniniwala kay Kristo and that's it. And plase pray for all churches in the country and to spread the salvation. yun lang po salamat!
